It’s been an increadible time here in Texas reconnecting with friends and spending the holidays together right before I shoot off back home. I’m working hard to get all the paperwork done for sending off the Visa application tomorrow. This is the last thing I have left in my push back to India. And there is more on the way. Stay tuned…

To begin a journey...

It’s with mixed emotions that I count down these last few weeks to the begining of my journey back to India. So many things have to be dealt with. I’m not sure what I will or won’t get done before I leave. I am only filled with a sense of earnest that I must get back. Indeed. I have been away too long. I miss the other side of the world.

Even so, the time here has been good. I’ve navigated the career switch from web and media advisor to musician. Now it’s time to test my wing with my new career and find if I can really make enough to support myself. The wind-up has been long. I’ve invested several thousand dollars in the switch and severely depleated my savings. Some might say that I’m crazy but I knew that I needed to make the switch. Still I wonder if I can make enough through the internet to warant an income The stakes are high. I can’t really afford to fail. Never-the-less I march on.

I wonder too whether I can balance the load of a missionary with that of a professional musician. Time will tell. But I am waiting on pins and needles as that time fast approaches. I plan to travel much more than before when I get back to India. My goal is a week at home and a week out. It may end up two weeks at a time. I’m warry of it all. So many changes. IT does test one’s faith in the benevelence of the Most High. Still I know that He has me in His care and I should not worry so much as I do.

This time it’s not just a journey acrost the world. That I am familiar with. This time it’s a journey to the other side of my life. I will start on Mother’s Day and produce a line of home-spun music videos for the next six months. If I suceed I will continue. If I fail I will go back to web business. But I don’t want to go back…

Preparing for Shabbat is alway one of my favorite times of the week. When the sun is just bearly peaking out from the horizon and we finish our work. It’s then that I realise how much time is in the hands of our Creator. He created heaven and earth so that we could enjoy it with Him for all eternity. Shabbat is a moment of longing for all Creation to find final rest in Him.

Quote of the Minute

So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience.

Will I hit the deadline?

I’m trying desparately to get everything together to launch my music on online. I’ve been reading voraciously: Leagal issues, marketing strategy, character definition, viral marketing, Performance Rights Organizations, Tumblr, Twitter, Last.fm, MySpace, Facebook, OpenSocial, YouTube, Revver, Stikam, Blip.tv, Snocap, PumpAudio, Slide, Taxi, Just Plain Folk, Val’s Art Diary, Jonathan Coulton It’s enough to drive most people insane!

How does one make a career from music using only the internet? It’s like any other internet business:

  1. Provide something of value to everyone with which you you interact
  2. Enable your fans/customers to communicate their passion about you
  3. Build a monetization model from proven strategies
  4. Open lines of communication and listen to suggestions
  5. Stay on top of things and post consistently
  6. Continually look for more distribution avenues
  7. Wind it up and get out of the way…!
Okay. So it’s no an exhaustive list. But that’s the basic plan. I’ve watched it work over and over again and now it’s my turn. From this I’ll be able to support my missions activities without begging and still get to share my love of music with the world. Well, that’s my dream anyway… Stay tuned for more.
